Fair to say Haim can set their sights high as they unveil Days Are Gone. All three trade vocals throughout the album and can shift from instrument to instrument with ease. Lucky for these musical sisters their musicianship is as stellar as their craftsmanship.

Musically the touchstones are fascinating as their transcend genres and decades of music. Their comfort in front of an audiences translates to ease in the studio. The girls are not just dynamic, but confident in their vision.
Their years performing pay immediate dividends on Days Are Gone. Energized and with a musical ambition fully realized, Haim arrives with major ambitions on their first album Days Are Gone.
"If I Could Change Your Mind" may very well be a number one hit, in 1986. It's a real shame, because parts of Days Are Gone are promising. The three sisters certainly don’t have the audacity of The Shaggs, the song-writing and musical quality of Jessie Ware, or the vocal distinction and artistry of Kate Bush. Days Are Gone would fit in a collection alongside Maroon 5, Little Mix, and dare I say it, One Direction. They've failed to grab the wrists of R&B, as their electronics are minimal and mostly bass related. Three sisters from Los Angeles, Este, Danielle and Alana Haim just released their debut but their careers as musicians started at a young age. HAIM can't help falling down this hole, as the genre is leading them in to a novelty. Haim - Days Are Gone As the year winds down there's still time to dig a little deeper into an album from one of music's fastest rising stars, Haim. Days Are Gone isn’t a bad album, it's far from it but plenty of this album is a drag, except the standout tracks which all happen to be singles: 'The Wire', 'Forever' and 'Falling'. HAIM have potential, but if they don't change up their musical direction, then they'll be left to rot in the future, like Biff in Back to The Future II. HAIM take this influence and attempt to replicate the alternative synthpop / soft rock sounds with the popular factor of a girl group with three vocalists: Sugababes, TLC, and Destiny's Child.
There's delay on beats which would sound better without. HAIM share lead vocals, but neither one of them is stronger - It's all rather simple and passive. The guitars are well produced and the overall feel of the album is: "fun" but essentially HAIM lose out with in their inability to create original recordings. They're drawn out, featuring basic instrumentals with no real kick or twist. Days Are Gone has tracks that belong in the 80s, and should be kept there 'Forever' is one of them, 'Honey and I' is another. HAIM's biggest threat isn’t approval, companies have covered that for them (Roc Nation,) it's whether or not their music will age well. This has been done before, and has been done better. HAIM have their influences and lyrics tied up neatly, it's just the overall feel of the music that begs serious questions of legitimacy. It reflects their lacklustre debut album Days Are Gone.
Recorded mostly in HAIM’s native Los Angeles, the album sees sisters Este, Danielle and Alana Haim working alongside acclaimed producers Ariel Rechtshaid (Usher, Vampire Weekend) and James Ford (Florence and the Machine, Arctic Monkeys). The trio of sisters looked lost on stage, with no bass, no strings, and no emotion. DAYS ARE GONE is the highly anticipated debut album from breakout band HAIM. 3/5 HAIM performed to the awkward face of David Cameron on the Andrew Marr Show.
